James Scott plays a lot of cover three defense, but he looks more comfortable playing man coming up to the line and pressing some to throw off the rhythm of the receiver. Works well over top and comes under to make the quick knockdown with the ability to change gears quickly and close ground.

Very solid tackler and could play safety when necessary in college with combination of size, tackling, and zone play. Sees the field well, has good anticipation, and has a high football IQ.
