CHRISTCHURCH, VA – J’Courtney Williams of Christchurch has been named a 2007 U.S. Army All-American. Williams is the second and final selection from the state of Virginia and joins a group of extraordinary student-athletes selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
This classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 12:00 Noon (CST) and will feature the nation’s top 80 high school football athletes.
J'Courtney Williams
is a standout linebacker and wide receiver at Christchurch High School and was one of 400 players nominated nationally and then ultimately selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which includes Scout.com.
Williams is rated as a five-star prospect and the nation's number two strongside linebacker. He committed to
Virginia
in April.
"Williams is a ballhawk who moves very well and does a great job of getting into opposing teams backfieds," said Allen Wallace, national recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "He's an aggressive playmaker with superior closing speed who is strong against the run and also dependable dropping into coverage."
"Moves very well to the ball, makes many plays in the backfield, and has tremendous closing speed," adds Bob Lichtenfels, East recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "Needs to wrap-up when he tackles, tends to get overly aggressive at times. Outstanding in coverage, could play safety in a lot of systems."
After two years at Danville (Va.) Washington, Williams transferred to Christchurch (Va.). During the first game of his junior season, Williams put on a show in the first quarter recording two sacks, an interception, a safety, and about eight tackles. However, he suffered a knee injury at the end of the first quarter forcing him to miss the next five games. When healthy, Williams was everything for Christchurch playing outside linebacker, strong safety, wide receiver, and tight end.
