NORCROSS, GA -- Caleb King entered the recruiting process hoping to keep a low profile, but one look around the announcement showed the attention befitting a five star prospect. In the face of that pressure, just like he does on Friday nights, Caleb King stepped up and announced that he will play football for Georgia.
"This morning I have come to announce where I will continue my education," said
Caleb King
. "After much thought and prayer I have decided to wear red and black and become a Georgia Bulldog. Coach Richt is a wonderful coach and a great Christian man. I want to surround myself with mentors such as him."
While the choice is
big for Georgia
, ultimately it was a tough one for Caleb and his family.
"In the course of my football career I have found coaches, player, parents, and fans have become my family. I believe I can thrive in the Georgia family. By going to school in Athens, my family will be able to come watch me. When looking at colleges I wanted to find a school that could prepare me for life after football. A degree from the University of Georgia speaks for itself.
"While I have not decided what I would like to study, I know that Georgia has an outstanding selection of degrees. The University of Georgia’s football program is one of the best in the country. It attracts some of the most talented players. I would like to thank my family, as many of you know, I am a quiet person. I get that from my mom (laughter). Andre my brother does most of the talking and I am thankful for that (laughter).
"All of my family, which includes five brothers and one sister, has worked hard. They have made tremendous sacrifices to support me. During my football career, I have been blessed to be coaches by some outstanding men. I wish to thank each and every coach. They have touched my life and teammates and embraced me for the person that I am. In a short amount of time, I have become a part of another family. The coaching staff at GAC demonstrates their love for Christ and uses football to build strong young Christian men. I thank them for allowing me to become a part of their program.
"I would also like to thank Florida, Auburn, LSU, Clemson, and Virginia Tech. It was a difficult decision to choose among the best, but I could only choose one school.
"My goals for the next few months are to concentrate on my academics and prepare myself for college. Next I will continue physical therapy. Upon my release from therapy I will begin intense training to compete for playing time at the University of Georgia."
King finished his speach with one phrase as emphatically as the soft-spoken running back could put it - "Go Dawgs".
