Gibson Returns from Tuscaloosa
"Our game was really close," said Brandon Gibson from Mobile, (Ala.). "They controlled the clock basically the whole game. They ran the same plays and got two or three yards every time. It was a very tough game." "I did well. I had two or three catches and a touchdown. I blocked the extra point to win the game." Great competitors make great plays, and Gibson stepped up near the end of the game to help the Bulldogs keep advancing to the Super 6 championships in Birmingham. "It was the fourth quarter with a minute and a half left to go in the game," Gibson said. "We fumbled the ball, and they recovered it. They ran a trap the first play, then they ran the option. Everyone bit on the option, and I didn't. I guessed and went after the quarterback. I missed the tackle, and he scored. I looked up, and I knew I had to do something. I went in and blocked the extra point. It was great." The Bulldogs will travel Friday night to Greenville (10-2) as they have advanced to round three. Gibson was in Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon, and he talks about his visit with the Tide. "It was exciting," he said. "It was the first game my mom got to go to. She didn't want to stay too long after the game so she went back to Birmingham. I stayed down there with my brother and hung out with some friends." "The stadium got crazy. People didn't think Alabama was going to play Auburn that well. It was loud. I loved the electricity." "I wasn't too shocked with the outcome. Auburn was supposed to win the game, but Alabama could have pulled it out. I wasn't rooting for a certain team, but I was really impressed with Alabama. They showed they could play with the big boys." "I was on the sideline during warm-ups, and when I saw Tyrone Prothro dressed out I couldn't believe I was seeing it. I talked to him, and he said he was just happy to be out there dressed out with the team." The city of Mobile, (Ala.) has one of the best group of prospects in the South for the class 2007. Gibson spent time with several of those players from the 251-area code. "I talked to guys like Sidell Corley, Michael McNeil and Elliott McGaskin," he said. "All the top guys from Mobile were at the game. I talked to a few other guys like Jermaine McKenzie, Brandon Clear and Mike Ford. Mike Ford told me he would be coming back to Alabama very soon." Gibson plans to set up his official visits at the end of his high school season.
