Florida DL Sets Second Visit

Dontee Nicholls

Dontee Nicholls is one of the top defensive tackle prospects in South Florida this year and the Ely standout talked about the latest.

"We got knocked out by St. Thomas," Dontee Nicholls said. "We laid down and they put it to us. I'm just relaxing now. I was gonna play basketball but I aint now."

Nicholls, 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, isn't sure of his stats but at least two opposing offensive linemen said he was the best guy they faced this season.

"I had a good year," he said. "I felt more comfortable in our defense and having the experience I did helped. Now it's time to focus on college."

The standout defensive tackle prospect has two official visits lined up and he's working on the others.

"I'm going to South Carolina on December 1st," he said. "Then I'm going to Rutgers on the 8th. After that, I'm supposed to set something up with West Virginia and Georgia. We just need to set the dates. The last one, I'm not sure about. Maybe the University of Miami."

The Hurricanes are new to the mix, as they just started recruiting the talented lineman.

"They started calling," he said. "I've been talking to Coach Hurtt. I went down for a camp earlier this year. Then recently, I went and hung out with Tyrone (Moss). They saw my tape of the Northeast game and that's when they started recruiting me."

Nicholls said he's not sure what to think of the season the Hurricanes are currently having.

"I don't know what's going on but that's always been my team," he said. "They're going through a rebuilding year but they'll get to their standard again."

The standout defender isn't ready to name a favorite just yet.

"They're all even up now," he said. "My visits might change that but for now, it's all even."
