Huskies Look Like a Lock

California linebacker Howard Bowens, who lived in Tacoma, Washington for eight years, says he's very close to making a commitment to Washington. In fact, he says that if all goes well, he'll commit during his official visit on December 1.

Two-star linebacker Howard Bowens (6-0, 216, 4.6) from Claremont (Calif.) finished his senior season (3-7) with 70 tackles, seven sacks and two fumbles recovered. Bowens benches 315 pounds and squats 415.

"I have good speed and run well sideline-to-sideline," Bowens said. "I have a nose for the ball and just know where it's going. I still want to improve my pass coverage and man coverage. I really want to work on my footwork."

Bowens favors Washington (offer) solidly over Boise State (offer), Arizona State, Arizona and Colorado State (offer). "I really like the coaches at Washington," Bowens said. "Coach Tyrone Willingham is a great coach and very smart. I trust him and have faith that he will turn them around.

"I also really love the area," Bowens said. "I used to live near there in Tacoma for eight years and have always like Seattle. It's a really nice city with a lot to do."

Bowens will be visiting the Huskies on December 1 and says they are recruiting him the hardest. "If I really like my visit, I'll commit. I really want to go in and make a difference," Bowens said. "I also want to have a chance to play."

Despite only having three scholarship offers, he says that both Arizona schools seem very interested, especially the University of Arizona. "They said they may be offering soon," Bowens said.

"I was hearing from San Diego State and Cal, but that was about it for the in-state schools," Bowens said. "I didn't really hear from UCLA or USC at all. My family and I really like USC. Growing up, we'd always watch them."

He reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 1500 SAT (new version). Recommended Stories
