Three-star quarterback/safety (ranked No. 55 best quarterback in the country by Scout.com) Chris Whitney (6-3, 215, 4.65), from Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep (Pa.), had scholarship offers from Rutgers and Temple, but those were pulled after they received other commitments. Whitney doesn't have any scholarship offers at this time, but favors Penn State slightly over Kansas, William & Mary, Richmond and James Madison.
"Penn State is recruiting me as a defensive back," Whitney said. "I love their tradition and the school is great. I also really like the coaches and they are only about three and a half hours away."
Whitney will be visiting William and Mary on December 8 and says they are recruiting him the hardest. "They said they'll have an offer for me when I visit," Whitney said. "I hear from them the most right now.
"Richmond offered me an official visit and I'll try to set that up for sometime in December."
Whitney helped lead his team to a 9-2 record and a spot in the championship game. He's passed for over 1500 yards and 16 touchdowns, while rushing for 370 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, he has three interceptions. He benches 245 pounds, squats 410 and has a 33-inch vertical jump.
"I have good accuracy and love to throw on the run," Whitney said. "I'm a winner on the field and do whatever I can to help the team. I still want to improve my arm strength and speed."
He reports a 3.9 core GPA and a 1360 SAT (old version).
