Scout.com four-star tight end Devin Mahina (6-6, 225, 4.8), from Upland (Calif.), finished his senior season with 25 receptions for approximately 400 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, he had 52 tackles and six sacks. His team finished 6-4.
Mahina denies a leader, but favors BYU, UCLA, Oregon and Colorado. All of his favorites have offered, plus several others.
He has already visited Colorado (November 11) and Oregon (November 18). "Colorado is a nice place," Mahina said. "We got to go to the coach's house for dinner and that was great. I just really felt part of the family. I liked how I never felt pressured. He said that they think they have a great program and that it's our choice to go there or not. He's not going to talk anyone into going there."
Although he enjoyed Colorado, it was his Oregon visit that really impressed Mahina. "I loved everything," Mahina said. "The locker room is crazy and the facilities are the best! Everything is state-of-the-art and everything is designed with the player in mind. Also, the fan support is great and I really like the small-town feel. I felt really welcomed."
He will be taking an official visit to UCLA on December 8 and also plans on attending the rivalry game against USC at the Rose Bowl on December 2. "UCLA hasn't had the best year," Mahina said. "It's been a pretty average year, but they usually rebound. I like the coaches and they always seem to get good players."
Mahina's final official visit will be to BYU on January 13. "I'm LDS and BYU is the main Mormon school," Mahina said. "I just feel like I'd be able to fit in there. I also really like their offense and that they use their tight end a lot.
"I will definitely be taking my mission, but all of these schools have had LDS students before, so they are fine with it."
He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 1200 SAT.
