Three-star defensive tackle Tyrone Duncan (6-2, 290, 5.0), from Westlake Village Westlake (Calif.), has helped lead his team to a perfect 12-0 record and a berth in the semifinals. Westlake takes on Canyon Country tonight for a spot in the championship game.
Duncan (ranked No. 51 by Scout.com) denies a leader, but favors Washington, San Diego State, Arizona, Oregon and Nebraska. He has offers from all of his favorites, except the Huskies and Ducks--and admits that the Ducks aren't really recruiting him any longer. Duncan said he also has offers from Mississippi, Wyoming and Fresno State.
"I'm gonna take my trips and sit down and compare everything," Duncan said. "I'd like to take all five of my trips before I decide anything. I'm still really open."
Even though the Huskies haven't offered yet, Duncan is confident they will. "I hear from their recruiting coordinator (Chris Tormey) a lot and he says that I'm one of their top recruits and that they will offer me a scholarship.
"Washington is rebuilding and the program has good tradition. I know a few guys who went there and they loved it. Also, I really like coach Tormey. He's smart and knows his stuff. He's just a cool, calm guy."
Duncan will be taking his first official visit to San Diego State on December 8. "They are recruiting me the hardest," Duncan said. "They call every day and are always texting me. They send me inspirational messages a lot and they've even text me at 5 am.
"I know that they didn't have a very good season, but I see a lot of potential and think that I could help. It seems like a good opportunity to join a team, play early and make an impact."
One school that has really impressed Duncan this year is Nebraska. "They had a great season and are playing in the Big 12 championship," Duncan said. "I think they surprised a lot of people this year and will only be getting better."
He reports a 3.0 core GPA and says that he's "very close" to qualifying. Duncan plans to retake the SAT in January.
