Two-star linebacker (ranked No. 61 by Scout.com) Gavin Cooper (6-3, 223, 4.7) from El Dorado Union Mine (Calif.) finished his senior season with 77 total tackles (27 solos, 50 assisted), six sacks and one interception. His team made it to the league finals but lost to Sacramento Grant 50-0. They finished with a 10-2 record.
Cooper says that Washington is still his only scholarship offer, but says that San Diego State, Boise State and California are now recruiting him the hardest. Those three are his favorites with a slight lead over Washington State and Washington.
"Our season just ended so now I'll start to set up my official visits," Cooper said.
"San Diego State, Boise State and Cal are calling me the most and a coach from San Diego State will be coming for an in-home visit on Wednesday (December 6)," Cooper said. "I like San Diego because it seems like a nice area and they have great weather all year.
"Boise State is nice because I know a few people who go there and they had an amazing season. They just have a really great team."
Cooper says that the Huskies offensive coordinator Tim Lappano is the one recruiting him and that they've talked about setting up an official visit. "I hope to do that soon," Cooper said.
He reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 1210/1600 SAT.
