Four-star wide receiver Drew Davis (6-2, 205, 4.5) from Denver Montbello (Colo.) continues to deny a leader but favors Oregon, Washington, UCLA and California. All have offered.
"I just returned from my UCLA official visit (December 1). The Bruins showed that they could compete against the top-ranked team (UCLA over USC 13-9). I witnessed a great game. I was very impressed with UCLA," Davis said. "Coach Karl Dorrell and Coach D.J. McCarthy (wide receivers) both answered all my questions. In the next two years UCLA will be losing six or seven receivers. All the current receivers are small and fast. The coaches are looking down the line and want some big fast guys. My size (6-2) has its advantages. I can run and block. All the current receivers at UCLA are about 6 foot. I have a couple inches on them.
"I got to experience great weather and visit Beverly Hills. One day I'd like to live in Beverly Hills and own one of those huge houses. I was very impressed with the Bruins, the programs at UCLA and the state of California.
"On November 18, I took an official visit to Oregon," he said. "What impressed me with Oregon were the facilities. They must have the best of everything. I know Nike takes care of the Ducks, but there aren't any words to describe the facilities that I saw. Whatever the players need--they have. Everything is top-notch.
"Coach Robin Pflugrad (wide receivers) said that they are in dying need of receivers as well. He says that I am physical enough to play and if I can come in and learn the program, I have a great chance of playing early. They're taking in three or four receivers due to some seniors leaving and some injuries that have occurred. I'm lucky enough to be one of their chosen few.
"Coach Pflugrad did an in-home visit last week," Davis said. "He answered all my parents' questions and also took some time to explain the academic programs that Oregon has to offer. Most players say that academics are important. But, it really is to me. My major is sociology and I want a degree from a college with a great reputation. I want my degree to mean something.
"Part of the reason I am good at playing football is because I can devote my mind and body to training, practice and playing. I don't have any academic problems or any hang-ups that take my mind away from what I need to do on the field. I don't have any worries and I don't give the coaches anything to worry about either. I focus when I'm in the classroom. Therefore, I can focus when I am on the field.
"The Huskies attract me because of Coach Eric Yarber (wide receivers)," he said. "Yarber has coached the San Francisco 49ers and has the ability to take me to the next level. He takes your strengths and molds you into a great player.
"Coach Bob Simmons (tight ends/special teams) says that they are also losing senior receivers this year. They want me to learn their system and see how early I can get on the field.
"I will be taking my official visit to California this week (December 8)," Davis said. "Coach Dan Ferrigno (wide receivers) was here this evening (December 4) to do an in-house visit. He met my parents and talked to me about the academic programs.
"As football players we follow all the college football programs. When we visit the colleges what we really look at is the campus, the academic program and will we enjoy spending four years at that one particular school.
"Right now, I can't see myself wearing any uniform," he said. "I have an open mind. My parents don't have a preference right now either. But, they are gathering information from the coaches just as I am. I'm looking at making a decision around December 15. I don't want to go into finals with this on my mind. I also want to enjoy the rest of my school year. Once I visit California, I'm sure my parents and I will sit down and discuss my options. As it stands now, all four schools have qualities that I like."
Final senior stats: 30 receptions/567 yds/9 TDs.
Davis reports a 4.0 core GPA and a 18 ACT score.
