Petty Having Big Year

Petty Having Big Year

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- As the seconds wound down on their second-straight Big 16 state championship last weekend, wide receiver Tyson Petty knew that it was a special time for Gaffney.

"It was a real good feeling, and we had fun up there," said the 5-foot-11, 162-pounder. "It means a lot to the school because ithas been since 1963 that they went undefeated. It has been a good year. I just had to make some of the non-believers believe in me."

The former track star turned football player made a believer out of many in attendance as he hauled in over 100 receiving yards on the day. He hopes to repeat that performance this weekend in the North-South All-Star game.

"It has been fun. It was kind of weird here my first day, but I got used to it."

What he has not gotten used to is the new attention from colleges in the area who are just now starting to pick up interest in the receiver.

"I'm hearing from South Carolina, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State and a few more. Middle Tennessee State, when they called me, they talked about setting up an official visit in January."
