Although Louisiana wide receiver Ahmad Paige (ranked No. 4 by Scout.com) says he's still committed to Florida State (January 12 official visit), he admits it's a "soft commit".
"I'd say it's 50/50 right now between Florida State and Florida," said Paige (6-2, 165, 4.4) from Sterlingon (La.) "Right now Florida seems more stable. It's kind of scary at Florida State right now because you don't know what's going to happen with the coaches. They try to make everything sound good, but I just don't know what's going to happen with them."
The five-star wide receiver helped lead his team to a 10-3 final record with 41 catches for 863 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had one kick return for a score.
Paige was supposed to visit USC this past weekend, but was forced to reschedule the trip for January 19. "My flight got canceled because of the rain and the fog," Paige said. "I love the overall style of play at USC and the type of players they seem to produce every year. I really like (linebacker coach) Ken Norton. He talks with me about the California lifestyle and that there's a lot to do in Los Angeles and how different it is from Louisiana, which can get kind of boring."
He already took an official visit to Florida and says the Gators are recruiting him the hardest. "I get a lot of texts and calls from them," Paige said. "They keep me updated on everything going on there.
"Florida had a great year and they won the SEC, which is not easy to do, and now they are in the national championship."
Paige also visited Tennessee on November 4 and Georgia on October 7, although he's no longer considering the Bulldogs. "They just kind of faded away," Paige said. "They aren't really recruiting me anymore, plus I didn't feel I'd fit into their offense that well."
He reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 810 SAT and 19 ACT. He'll retake the ACT in February.
