Linebacker Brandon Hicks knows one thing and that is he wants to wait until next month to make his college football decision. The senior from Jacksonville (Fla.) Forest High School has already visited Nebraska (11-24) and Florida (12-9). Next month he plans on visiting Clemson (1-12) and Miami. LSU may also get a visit.
“Nebraska was different,” said Hicks. “It wasn’t cold and I had a good time. I was there for Colorado game and they have a crazy crowd. They do love their football there. One thing I like is their scheme defensively. I really think I fit in well.
”Florida is a school I really like a lot. I watched film with coach (Charlie) Strong of their defense while I was on my visit. I like how their SAM linebacker plays so close to the line of scrimmage. That’s what position I want to play. I also like coach (Urban) Meyer. He seems like a cool guy. Right now Florida is my leader.
“I want to visit Clemson next month. Coach Sweeney says they are a different place with a different atmosphere and I am anxious to see them. They are kind of intriguing to me. I mean what made C.J. Spiller leave the state and go there? I want to find that out.
“I am gaining some interest in Miami. Coach (Randy) Shannon is a good guy and his players are cool. I have always liked his defense and I am glad he got the job. They just need a new offensive staff. But I like his personality and leadership. I hope I can visit them too.
”I am not sure if I will visit LSU. But I do love the way they use their linebackers.”
So what will dictate and influence his decision?
“At this point things will come down to the visits and where I feel comfortable. Right now I would say Florida leads and then its Miami, Clemson, Nebraska and then LSU (in that order). I hope to make a decision some in late January.”
