Three-star safety Dion Bland (6-1, 191, 4.5), from Merced (Calif.), finished his senior season with 103 tackles, four fumbles caused, two fumbles recovered and two interceptions.
Bland said he favors California and Washington. The problem is he hasn't heard from either school since the beginning of December. "I haven't talked with any coaches in almost a month," Bland said. "But I know that this is a busy time of year with bowl games and stuff.
"I still get mail from Washington and they were at my high school earlier this month," Bland said. "Washington is really the only school that still sends me stuff."
Many schools seem to be a bit nervous about Bland's academics and have taken a wait-and-see approach. Bland reports a 2.0 core GPA and says he's never taken the SAT. He's taking the test in January. "Washington said that they'd help me if I do my part," Bland said. "I'll have to get all Cs or better for the rest of the year--plus get a passing test score."
With Signing Day just over a month away, junior college is looking more and more like a possibility for Bland. "They've also talked with me about a junior college and if I have to go to one they want me to go to Fresno City College."
