Five-star defensive end Carlos Dunlap (6-6, 240, 4.7), from Ft. Dorchester in North Charleston (S.C.), finished his senior season with 105 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and an impressive 24 sacks. His team was 9-3 for the year.
Carlos Dunlap, ranked No. 7 by Scout.com, says he plans to take all five of his official visits and has already taken one to South Carolina. "I think they are doing good things," Dunlap said. "They are on their way up. Coach Steve Spurrier is doing a good job and they are definitely improving. I like their defense and think I'd be able to play early."
He visited the Gamecocks on Dec. 12. "I also like that they are just over an hour away," Dunlap said, adding that he'd like to stay within six hours driving distance.
Next up for Dunlap is Tennessee on Jan. 12 and Florida on Jan. 19. "I like the fast-paced style that Florida plays," Dunlap said. "I love their defense. They are doing really well this year and I think they'll be on top for a while. I think they'll do well against Ohio State next week. That should be a great game.
"Florida is also a nice area," Dunlap said. "It's a football state and Gainesville is a football town. They really love the Gators."
Although Dunlap says he plans to take all five of his visits, his final two are still up in the air. "I haven't decided on who else I'll visit," Dunlap said. "I have offers from practically everybody, so we'll see. Right now I just know these are my top three for sure."
The Gamecocks lead slightly over the Gators and the Vols according to Dunlap.
He reports a 2.5 core GPA and is waiting on his December SAT results.
