Running back Houston Cassita (5-10, 215, 4.6), from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah, says he still favors Clemson slightly over Tennessee and UCLA. He's added Washington State and Georgia Tech to his top five. Problem is - still no offers from this group and no evidence that they may be offering either. Only BYU has offered Cassita and he doesn't want to be a Cougar.
"I visited Clemson in August or September, but not officially," Cassita said. "I met the coaching staff and they are cool. They took me down to the stadium. I like their facilities and environment. There is a lot of green, but not a lot of people. I met a freshman lineman and saw some running backs. They like to use their running backs a lot, which I like. I ran down the field and 'rubbed the rock'. It's a tradition to rub the rock before every game. The rock is on the hill at the north end zone, where it is rubbed for good luck. Then a canon is shot and the players would run down the hill.
Cassita says he doesn't know which schools he is going to visit officially, if any. "My dad takes care of all of that," Cassita said. "He knows the dates and where I am going to visit. It is too much pressure and a lot to think about."
"I visited BYU plenty of times (not officially)," Cassita said. "They have a great football team but it's too close to home. I would like to live my life."
Cassita also visited Georgia Tech (unofficially) with his dad. "We went to one of their games," Cassita said. "It was Georgia Tech and Notre Dame (Sept. 2). We got there during the first quarter. There was a ton of people there. It was crazy and out of control. I couldn't talk to anyone (coaches, players). We just left after the game."
Cassita talked about his best strengths. "I am very balanced," Cassita said. "I can run outside, and take it up the sideline. I can get the QB toss and beat guys to the corner. I've got power to run between the tackles. I have explosive speed and can maintain the speed.
"My one weakness is that I cannot beat the corner from a dead sprint," Cassita said. "They always catch me. I am going to do plyametrics. It's an explosive workout. I will be working on (my) speed and hamstrings. I have been doing box jumps and straight leg dead lifts."
He reports a 2.7 core GPA and will take the ACT on Feb. 10.
