Three-star tight end/defense end Eric Brooks (6-1, 240, 4.8), from Monrovia (Calif.), is a step closer to making a commitment to San Diego State. Last time we spoke with Brooks, he said there was a "75 percent" chance he'd commit to the Aztecs. Well, since then it's been upgraded to "90 percent".
"I'll probably commit there when I go on my official visit (Jan. 19)," Brooks said. "They are really the only school that I have a scholarship offer from and that is still recruiting me.
"I like that San Diego is pretty close to home and that my family will be able to see me play and support me," Brooks said. "They said they want me to play tight end."
Brooks used to have offers from Arizona State and Colorado State, but both have stopped recruiting him in recent weeks. "I still get mail from schools like Washington, Washington State, Oregon State and UTEP, but I haven't heard much from them. They haven't called or offered me a visit or anything."
Even though the odds for San Diego State are very high, Brooks admits that if other schools come calling he'll consider them. "If a Pac-10 school were to offer me a scholarship or a visit I'd definitely consider them. I'd commit to San Diego State now, but I just want to wait and see what else happens and see if anyone else calls."
He reports a 2.6 core GPA and a 750 SAT (new version, math and verbal only), which he is retaking in February. "I have a tutor for the SAT and I'm going to set up my retake soon," Brooks said. "I should be fine and I can still take it a few more times."
