When Trey Henderson visited USC for line camp this past summer, it was all done with the idea of getting exposure and getting a chance to get his name out there. Well, it worked. Henderson, a 6-foot-3.5, 270-pound TE/DL from Vancouver Prep in Vancouver, B.C., just returned home from his official visit to Los Angeles with a decision in hand. He's going to be a Trojan.
"I committed this morning," Henderson told Scout.com of his decision to decommit from
Washington State
and pledge his services to
USC
. "There was a lot of yelling. They were all so excited, that was the cool part. They were all pumped up, so that made me feel even more comfortable about my decision.
"For me, I've always wanted to go to USC, so it was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up."
Henderson has since called the Washington State coaches to let him know of his decision, so the news is now out.
An official visit to the campus this past weekend sealed Henderson's ultimate decision. "The trip was good, I had a really good time," he said. "My host was
Mike Morgan
, a linebacker from Texas. He's a good guy. We went to a baseball game and a basketball game. The facilities are very nice and the coaching staff - coach (Pat) Ruel, coach (Nick) Holt and coach (Pete) Carroll, they are all good people."
The basketball game made a big impression on Henderson. "It was a highlight," he said. "Getting a chance to see all the energy, the new (Galen) Center, just the way the people support everyone. It makes me wish I had seen a football game this year."
The Trojans want Henderson to come to southern California as soon as he graduates. "Coach Carroll told me I need to be in shape to get in shape with them, so I'm just going to work on getting bigger, stronger, faster and then go down there to train and to learn the defensive schemes."
The coaches told Henderson that he would play either tackle or end, depending on his speed.
