Garrett Goebel, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive lineman from Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Ill., has added two more Big 10 offers over the last week.
“Minnesota offered me a scholarship,” Goebel informed. “I do not know a whole lot about them except that they play in the Big 10.”
“I know that they have a new coaching staff, and they are having a whole bunch of renovations to their weight room and their football facilities.”
“Purdue has now offered me as well,” Goebel continued. “They are another good Big 10 program.”
Goebel now holds offers from Ohio State, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Purdue. He plans to be traveling to another Big 10 program on Wednesday.
“I think I will be going to look at Northwestern,” Goebel said. “I am pretty excited to get to check them out.”
Goebel is also a standout wrestler, who went 55-1 on his way to a state heavyweight championship, but he is uncertain if he will continue to wrestle on the next level.
“I am actually leaning towards football a little,” Goebel explained. “Ohio State and Illinois both said that I could try to do both, but I am afraid that it will be hard to be as good as I can be at either if I do that. I am leaving the door open to all of my options in both sports.”
Goebel reports that he will be trying to attend camps at Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio State this summer.
As a junior, Goebel racked up 16 tackles for loss on his way to All-Area and All-Conference honored for his play along the defensive line.
