Nearing First Offer
Kenny Smith spent the first two years of his high school career at Coral Gables High before transferring to Booker T. as a junior. "I had to leave the Gables," Smith said. "I'm still friends with some of those guys. The quarterback, Christopher Gordon, and I are friends." Smith , 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, walked into a good situation at Booker T. "When I got here, they were talking about a state title," he said. "We came close but not close enough. Plant beat us but I gotta give the quarterback there (Robert Marve) a lot of props. He beat us. Our number one goal this year is to win it all." Smith played cornerback opposite Brandon Harris, who will be a national recruit this year. "He locked one side down and I locked down the other," he said. "When teams weren't throwing much, it got kinda boring because there wasn't a whole lot of action. I only had two picks." Smith said the competition at his school is what makes him one of the better corners around. "The competition here is intense," he said. "We're going up against great receivers every day in practice. DJ (Davon Johnson) and Thearon (Collier) aren't no joke." Smith, who carries a 2.0 GPA, said he thinks his first offer may happen real soon. "I hear a lot from UCF," he said. "They text me a lot every single day. I'm going up there on April 7 to check things out and I think I'll have an offer by the time I leave. I also like UM, Florida State, Florida, and Rutger but I'd love to play at UCF and be able to stay closer to home."
