Alfred Dupree, the 6-foot-2 and a half, 219 pound defensive end/linebacker from Skyline High School in Dallas, has seven scholarship offers and one verbal ride. He says he's received scholarship letters from Minnesota, Alabama, Mississippi, Purdue, Baylor, Wisconsin and Kansas State, and that Oklahoma has given him a verbal offer.
"They (Oklahoma) said they need my transcript," said the youngster from Texas. "I'm sending that to them next week. They offered me verbally a while ago and they should be sending me my letter soon.
"I really like the tradition at Oklahoma. One of the main reasons I started liking them is because my recruiting coach, (Sooner offensive coordinator) Kevin Wilson, used to go to high school with my dad and they played football together. I also really like their facilities and that they are a big-time football program. I just like how they play and the whole environment is great - the stadium, the campus, the weight room."
The Sooners lead slightly over LSU, Minnesota, Kansas State and Texas. The Longhorns are Dupree's childhood favorite. "I used to watch them every week," he said. "Me and my brothers liked them a lot."
His first scholarship offer came in January from Minnesota. "The coaches are all new and very cool," Dupree said. "They seem to like me a lot and I feel like we have good communication. I get a good vibe from them."
Dupree already attended a the Oklahoma Junior Day and will be at the Scout.com Combine in Dallas on March 25.
"I'll commit before the season starts," Dupree said. "By the end of the summer I should know where I want to go and I don't want to be worrying about it during the season. I just want a chance to play and win."
He says he can bench 220 pounds, squat 500 and that he has a 40-inch vertical jump.
"I have good speed and get to the ball fast. I run a 4.7 40." Dupree said. "I make plays and never quit. I can come off the edge and attack the quarterback hard. I'm always trying to stop the big play.
"I still want to improve my upper body strength and be more physical. That way I'll be able to get off blocks easier. I also need to read defenders better and improve my overall awareness."
He reports a 2.4 core GPA and a 650 on his first stab at the SAT, which he is retaking in April.
