"Torrey (Mack) is my best friend," said running back Octavious McKoy, of his backfield running mate. "We're together all day, every day and everybody has been asking if we're going to the same school. We've talked about it and we may end up going to the same school, but it's not something we're seriously planning or anything..."

Octavious McKoy, the 5-foot-11, 180 pound running back from Stratford (Conn.), finished his junior season with 179 carries for 1378 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had five touchdowns receiving.

McKoy is one part of Stratford's dangerous running tandem which accounted for more than 3000 yards rushing and 40 scores. His counterpart is another big-time Div. I recruit, Torrey Mack.

"Torrey is my best friend," McKoy said. "We're together all day, every day and everybody has been asking if we're going to the same school. We've talked about it and we may end up going to the same school, but it's not something we're seriously planning or anything. We just happen to like a lot of the same schools and we'll probably take some visits together."

Despite the fact that Mack has many more offers at the moment, McKoy says that he's hearing from the same schools as his teammate. "The only schools I'm not hearing from are Florida or Florida State," he said. "Otherwise, I'm getting letters from the same schools as him."

McKoy and Mack grew up playing against each other and were always compared to one another. "People would say we have similar styles because we're about the same height and weight," McKoy said. "We complement each other pretty well because he's more of a hard runner and pounds it in. I'm more of a scatback and am really explosive and have great vision. We give teams a lot of match-up problems."

McKoy likes to think of himself as a "Reggie Bush-type." He benches 255 pounds and has a 40-inch vertical jump. "I'm really aggressive too and am very versatile. I can catch and run, but I'd really like to bulk up and add more weight. That way I'd be a more powerful runner. I also want to get my 40 time down. I run a 4.5 now, but I know I can do better."

His only scholarship offer thus far is from Iowa and the Hawkeyes have a slight edge over Maryland, Virginia, Penn State, Connecticut and Wisconsin.

"Iowa just offered me a few weeks ago," McKoy said. "I've always kind of liked them. I like how tough and physical they play. That's my style. I also like their strength and conditioning program and I like the vibe I'm getting from the coaches. I've looked through the media guide and it seems really impressive. I like what I see. I really want to visit them."

The only school he's seen thus far is Connecticut, and that's because they are only one hour from his house. "I'd really rather get away from home and see more of the world," McKoy said, who was born in upstate New York.

"I used to watch Connecticut because it's so close to home," he said. "I also really liked watching Florida and Florida State."

Despite wanting to get away from home, McKoy thinks the Huskies are close to offering him. "I talked with (running back) coach Terry Richardson and he said they'll have an offer for me. I think they are really close. They came to a bunch of my games last season and seem to really like me."

McKoy plans to attend a camp at Connecticut this summer and will also be at the New Jersey Scout.com Combine in April.

"I want to see what's out there," McKoy said. "I want to take advantage of everything and see all the schools I can. I just want to play. I want to play for a team that will use me in many ways and let me make a lot of plays."

He reports a 2.2 core GPA and is taking the SAT in June.
