"My family
lives in Meridian (MS), " added Milton Knox. "Basically it would be like a
homecoming for me if I ended up at Ole Miss."
Which side of Knox's
family lives in Mississippi?
"My father, his parents, brothers, sisters,
just his whole side of the family, basically. I stay in Meridian pretty much ever
summer. I know a lot of people down there."
The Scout.com National
Top 100 member has been impressed with Ole Miss so far through the recruiting
process.
"Ole Miss is a great school. You can say they are in a rebuilding
process, with Coach Orgeron just getting there. They are trying to get back to
where they were when Eli and Archie were there. They are one of the elite programs
in the SEC. Ole Miss has just had a couple of bad seasons lately, but football
goes in cycles. You have your ups and downs. They are about to be back on an upswing."
The
Ole Miss staff has also made an impression on Knox.
"Ole Miss has
an advantage over the other schools down there like Alabama, LSU, and those schools
because they do not recruit California that heavily, not like Ole Miss. Out here,
if you want to find the top spots, you look at Ole Miss because they have an advantage
over the other schools from the South because their staff comes from (U)SC, and
they grew up here and know this area so well. I think they will be an elite school
by the time I get to college."
What is going on in Knox's recruitment
outside of Ole Miss?
"Arizona and San Diego State are my newest offers.
I will take some time and make a decision after I get done with my official visits
in December of January."
Who else has offered the All-State performer?
"Ole
Miss, UCLA, and Florida State."
Has Knox had a chance to take in any
Jr Days?
"I have been down to UCLA and San Diego State. Those are
the only ones I have been to. I do not think I will be going to anymore Jr Days
or practices.. I am going to just work out and get ready for my senior season."
Outside
of the colleges that have offered Milton; who has stood out?
"Schools
like California, Florida, and also Notre Dame. Those three schools have caught
my attention. That is about it. They talk to me and said they liked me. I am not
sure if they are going to offer me or not, so I am going to take my time and see
what happens. UCLA, Ole Miss, California, Florida, and Notre Dame are all right
there together. The school that recruits me the hardest, that's the school I will
commit to."
So far, who is coming after Knox the hardest?
"Everybody
is about equal. I just got a call from Florida the other day. Ole Miss texts me
all of the time. UCLA does too. Everybody is sending letters, texting, doing the
same stuff. It is neck and neck between those schools right now."
The
5' 9", 200 pound back led Van Nuys (Calif.) Birmingham to the City Section
title. He Rushed for 2,374 yards and scored 29 touchdowns, earning First Team
All-State honors (overall and underclass). Milton is a three-year starter for
the Patriots and could end up as the leading rusher in City Section history when
his career is over.
"I think my toughness is the main thing. I am
willing to do the dirty things that other RB's are not willing to do, like blocking,
taking on the DL, and things like that. The great ones like Emmitt Smith, Jim
Brown, and Walter Peyton; they did the dirty things that others did not want to
do. That is why they are in the Hall of Fame."
There are still a couple
of things Knox would like to work on for the next level?
"My size
and reading the defenses better. That is the part of the game that I want to get
down. Then I will let my God given talents do the rest."
