Antonio Harper is one of Tennessee's best

Antonio Harper (LB, Memphis, TN) - The City of Memphis was down last year, in terms of quality prospects, but look for the '08 class to pick up considerably.

One of the headliners from the Bluff City will be Melrose's Antonio Harper.

"I am well coached," added Antonio Harper. "Being able to read my keys and my speed gives me the edge. My techniques help me out a lot too."

Harper was named to the 4A 1st Team All-State squad after collecting 95 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 int's, and 2 forced fumbles.

"Last year was a good season, as far as stats wise, but we only made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. We need to get back to winning championships around here."

Three colleges have offered the talented linebacker so far.

"Alabama, Ole Miss, and Miami have offered me."

Who could be next in line?

"Georgia Tech. They have been sending me some letters wanting me to come to their camps and stuff."

Which colleges are at the top of Harper's list?

"The three that have offered me."

What stands out about Alabama?

"It is a great school. I would love to go to that school, but I have to take some more visits. But Alabama is one of my top schools."

What are Ole Miss' positives?

"They are recruiting me real hard, but I have never been down there for a visit so I do not know how they are. But I met two of their coaches and they seemed like nice people."

And Miami?

"They are one of the schools I have been wanting to go to, but I did not know this many colleges were going to want me, but it is a good college to go to."

Anybody else real active in their recruitment with the 6' 4", 220 pound linebacker?

"Auburn. They text me every week, and they wanted me to come down to their A Day."

Has Antonio visited any colleges this Spring?

"I went to Alabama's Jr Day."

Did anyone accompany him?

"My mother, brother, and cousin came with me."

How did that experience go?

"I liked the campus and how the coaches treated me. I liked it a lot."

What stood out during the visit?

"I like how they take care of their athlete's academics. They straight up tell you that you will get your degree if you go to school there."

Will Antonio take anymore visits this Spring?

"I am going back to Alabama, and I want to check out Ole Miss and Miami too."

What will be the main factors when it comes decision time?

"Just how the coaches treat me. That is all I am looking at, how they treat me."

Antonio reports a 2.6 GPA / 16 ACT.
