Aaron Williams
Round Rock McNeil’s Aaron Williams, a 6-foot-0, 170-pound defensive back burst on to the scene at the U.S. Army National Combine. He showed great coverage skills and tremendous speed as he locked down some of the top receivers in the country. The scary thing is that Williams seems to have improved since then. He proved to be one of the top defensive backs in the Lone Star State at the Scout.com Combine in Dallas on Sunday.

“Yeah,” Aaron Williams replied when asked if he was having a good time at the combine. Williams didn’t back down from anyone who wanted to try and beat him in one-on-one drills including future teammate Dan Buckner. The two spent a good bit of time together in Austin on Saturday and have become good friends.

“Yeah,” Williams added when asked if he thought he got the best of his individual battles with Buckner. “Dan is a good player and we just like to compete against each other. We are good friends that like to compete a lot.”

Williams was arguably the top defensive back at the combine. He is a fierce competitor and never backs down from a challenge. Williams ran a blazing 3.90 in the pro-shuttle inside the Dallas Cowboys training facility. His great speed also allowed him to excel in press coverage in one-on-ones.

It is obvious that Williams has the skills and potential to be a shut down corner on the next level. However, he has played safety for most of his high school career and is still unsure about where he will figure in at UT.

“We haven’t really discussed any of that yet,” Williams said. “It really doesn’t matter where I play as long as I help the team.”

LaMichael James a 5-foot-10, 180-pound athlete from Texarkana Liberty High in Texas attended the Oklahoma State Junior Day and in two weeks will go to the Houston Junior Day, and then to the Arkansas Junior Day. James has been offered by Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Houston, and he expects Arkansas to offer him at their Junior Day.

James is also talking to Oklahoma and he admits he has a genuine interest in the Sooners.

“I talk to OU every two weeks or so,” said James. “I talked to Coach Heupel and he said that the running back coach (Cale Gundy) wanted to see me before he offered me. He said that more than likely they are going to offer me. I like Oklahoma a lot. OU is a great school to go to. I think Bob Stoops is a great coach.”

However, at the moment James admits he does have a leader.

"I am going to be looking for playing time and who has the strongest academic program,” said James.

Dayne Crist

California quarterback Dayne Crist, who has been highly sought after by schools across the country, made the trip to Baton Rouge to take part in all of the LSU spring game festivities, and described his experience as “unbelievable.”

“The whole weekend was great,” Crist said. “I got into town on Thursday and met with the coaches on campus, and then they took me on a tour of the football facilities. Then on Friday, I went on an academic tour of the LSU campus and saw the Cox Communications Center.

“The facilities at LSU were unbelievable. It’s crazy. There’s not anything like that on the west coast.”

The 6-4, 228-pounder said he spent a good deal of time talking with head coach Les Miles, as well as offensive coordinator Gary Crowton and wide out coach D.J. McCarthy.

“I really liked the coaches a lot,” he said. “We talked about fitting in a whole lot, and about competing for playing time. They also wanted to talk to me about other things than just football. They’re great people.”

Nick Florence, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound dual-threat quarterback out of South Garland High School has committed to the Baylor Bears.

"I am committed to Baylor," Florence exclaimed. "I am for sure going there. It is a done deal."

Florence who threw for just under 3,000 yards last year as a junior for 25 touchdowns, also showed his mobility rushing for over 400 yards and scoring 11 times on the ground. Florence believes his mobility allows him to be such a threat behind center.

"I am a great thrower, I can scramble, and I can throw it left or throw it right. But I make things happen with my feet."

When asked who he could compare himself to, Florence was quick to respond.

"My coach compares me to Drew Brees and Drew Tate. Drew Brees is obviously doing awesome right now, and Drew Tate did some great things at Iowa," Florence said. "Both those guys knew how to win, and are great quarterbacks."

So what was it about Baylor that made the talented quarterback make his commitment so early?

"I just felt very welcomed there," Florence explained of his feelings while on campus. "It is where I have wanted to go for the past year or so, my parents went to Baylor. I know people at Baylor, and it just felt like the right place for me."
