Busy Schedule for Semple
Joe Semple, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman from Mundelein High School is a valuable commodity on the offensive line in that he can play all three positions in a snag, although he probably projects best at center at the collegiate level. Right now he's getting the bulk of his interest from Big Ten schools, however interest is coming from other places as well. "Illinois, Purdue, Iowa and Wisconsin seem the most interested right now," Semple said. "I also hear from Georgia, Maryland, Arizona and Colorado, but not as frequently as I do the other schools." Semple has had a busy offseason so far, visiting Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue. He'll be heading to Iowa for spring practice this week, then to Illinois, then to Northern Illinois and Purdue and finally, a stop at Northwestern. After all of these visits, Semple has some idea of the schools he likes the best. "Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa stick out a lot," Semple explained. "With Wisconsin the facilities are really nice and the campus has kind of that old school feel to it, which I really like. At Iowa, you're really out in the middle of no where in farm country which is something I think is nice. At Illinois, you've got great facilities and a great coaching staff, especially in Head Coach Ron Zook. He's kind of a down home guy if you know what I mean. They just got done bringing in a great recruiting class and when I was on campus he was the one head coach I've seen out and about with recruits just shooting the breeze." Semple has been told by all three schools that his performance in summer camps will be the time for him to prove his worth and earn scholarships and he is more then ready for the challenge. Semple was selected third team All-Area by the Pioneer Press and his teams' most valuable offensive lineman as a junior.
