Michael Brewster, the fantastic 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Edgewater High School in Orlando (Fla.), says he already has 35 scholarship offers from schools coast-to-coast.
Brewster favors Florida and Ohio State slightly over LSU, Alabama, USC and Miami. All six have offered. He also has offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, Stanford and Penn State, among several others.
"Ohio State and Florida are my top two because they've been recruiting me the longest and I have the best relationship with their coaches," Brewster said.
In fact, the Gators were the first school to offer him verbally the summer before his junior season. "I've already gone to their junior day and I'm gonna be at their spring game on April 14. They are only about two hours away, which is nice. I also really like the coaches there. Coach Urban Meyer is really confident and young. He relates well to kids and is just a really smart coach. He always seems to have a good game plan."
Brewster is also planning on going to the Buckeyes spring game on April 21. "I have a great relationship with their offensive line coach (Jim Bollman) and coach Jim Tressel," Brewster said. "They've been recruiting me for three years and they've gotten to know me well. I just really like how well they prepare their players for the NFL."
Unlike most recruits, Brewster already has all five of his official visits scheduled and says he'll make a decision by the end of the year. "I'm taking three visits back-to-back in September and will visit USC and Ohio State in October and November and should decide sometime in December."
He takes his first official visit to LSU on September 8. "It's a great overall program," he said. "They always seem to be competing for the national championship and they go to a BCS bowl every year."
Next he heads to Florida on September 15 and Alabama on September 22. "I'm really interested to see what (new head coach) Nick Saban does at Alabama," Brewster said. "They have great tradition and I'd like to see them get back on top."
Then Brewster gets a little breather before visiting USC on October 13 for the Arizona game. "Coach Pete Carroll is doing great things there," he said. "It's one of those programs you just can't not look at. They had a dynasty going. Every year you just expect them to win and even when they have an off year they still go and win the Rose Bowl."
Brewster's final visit will be to Ohio State on November 3 for the Wisconsin game.
"I'm more of a city guy and I'd like to at least be near a city," Brewster said. "It would also be nice to stay close, but overall I'll probably go anywhere if I feel it's for me. I just need to see where I'm comfortable. I think I'll know in my heart when I feel it's right. It'll be that school that I just can't say no to."
Brewster benches 380 pounds, runs the 40 in 5.1 seconds and has a 25-inch vertical jump. "I have a nasty streak and a will to win," he said. "I'm a leader and can take control of a the game from the o-line. I play smart and always try to help my team. I play with passion, but stay calm.
"I really need to learn the pass protection more," Brewster admitted. "It's really big in college and not very common in high school. I'd also like to bulk up and get stronger."
He reports a 3.5 core GPA and a 930 SAT, which he plans to retake.
