Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame linebacker Anthony McDonald (6-3, 220) had been hinting at committing to Notre Dame for some time.
All that kept him from doing so was taking a visit to South Bend.
McDonald arrived on Wednesday and made his decision.
"Anthony wanted me to let you know he committed today," said Mike McDonald, Anthony's father. "We met with Coach (Charlie) Weis and Corwin Brown and we're just excited about Notre Dame.
McDonald and his family arrived early in the day and took a brief tour of campus.
"We got to see a little bit of the campus and the facilities are amazing," said Mike McDonald. "It's a real centerpiece of college football."
McDonald, the top linebacker in California, had long talked about keeping his career going with Notre Dame. His high school wears the same uniforms as the Irish.
"I won't have to get a new visor now," joked Mike McDonald.
Mike McDonald said that Anthony would be spending more time with the Irish staff on Thursday as well as watch practice. His teammate Dayne Crist, an Irish target at quarterback, also arrive on Wednesday.
