Garrett Goebel, Scout.com's No. 59 prospect nationwide, denies a leader, but favors Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Arizona State. He says all have offered except the Irish. "Toward the end of May I'll start to narrow it down," Goebel said. "I'll have my top five by then. I just want to take some more time and really get to know the coaches..."

Garrett Goebel, the 6-foot-5, 272 pound defensive tackle from Montini Catholic High School in Lombard (Ill.), finished his junior season with 16 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

"I'm really tough and have good strength," said Goebel, who benches 345 pounds. "I love playing physical and working hard. I can play offense or defense, but I like hitting people and think that offense is more fun.

"I want to improve my quickness and agility and be tougher to block."

Goebel, Scout.com's No. 59 prospect nationwide, denies a leader, but favors Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Arizona State. He says all have offered except the Irish and that he has 15 in all.

"Toward the end of May I'll start to narrow it down," Goebel said. "I'll have my top five by then. I just want to take some more time and really get to know the coaches. I've been to a lot of schools already and I'd rather commit early and before my season starts."

His first scholarship offer was from Illinois. "They are only about two hours from my house, but I'm not really looking to stay close," he said. "I'll go wherever I feel is best. They are turning it around and coach Ron Zook is doing a great job.

"I really like the facilities at Iowa, especially the practice facilities. They are amazing," he said. "I love how they are all about football. It's a great football town.

"Notre Dame also has great football tradition and I really like the coaches. They have a great defense and they are always a top team and do well every year."

The only combine that he plans on attending is the Scout.com Chicago affair on May 19.

The only non-Midwest school in Goebel's top five is Arizona State. "I really like the warm weather and it's a nice place," Goebel said. "I also really like head coach Dennis Erickson. He's a great coach and a funny guy too. I think he'll turn the program around."

Goebel reports a 2.7 core GPA and is awaiting his ACT results.
