Florida Speedster Has Five Offers
I've probably seen Davon Johnson at a half-dozen camps/combines over the past two years and I don't ever remember him running anything worse than a 4.48. He's legitimately one of the fastest recruits in the state this year. "I have speed and that makes all the difference," Johnson said. "Some guys are fast on the track but you wouldn't know it watching them play. I have game speed, too." That, he does. Johnson, who won the district title in the 400m, is competing in three different events at today's regional track meet in Miami. In the meantime, he's getting ready for spring football to start. "It's right around the corner and I can't wait," he said. "We've had some good years since I've been here but we haven't been able to finish. That's our goal this year and we have some good young players coming up to help us." Johnson, who caught 22 passes for 422 yards and four touchdowns as a junior last season, now has five scholarship offers to his name. "I'm hoping to get some more since I just took the ACT," he said. "That seems to be how a lot of people get more. My five are from Miami, Rutgers, FIU, Central Florida, and Ole Miss. Minnesota said they're gonna offer. My top five would be UM, Ole Miss, UCF, Rutgers, and Minnesota." Johnson, 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, said he's excited about the offer from the hometown Hurricanes. "They're trying to get me and Brandon (Harris)," he said. "I went to some of their spring practices. They look good. I think Coach Shannon's gonna bring 'em back. I've been talking to Coach Mosely and he just tells me to stay focused on my grades and stuff." Johnson carries a 2.9 GPA inside the classroom.
