Ryan Griffin, the 6-foot-4, 206 pound quarterback from Chaminade College Prep in West Hills (Calif.), finished his junior season with a staggering 3400 yards passing for 32 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. He finished with a 59 percent completion percentage and also rushed for three touchdowns.
"I'm smart and have a good knowledge of the game," Griffin said. "I also can make all the throws and make the big plays. I'm a great leader.
"I need to work on my speed and especially throwing on the run. I want to fine-tune my game and work on selling my fakes better. Stuff like that."
He benches 220 pounds, squats 320 and can run a 4.9 forty.
Griffin doesn't have any scholarship offers yet, but favors UCLA slightly over Stanford, Michigan State, Nevada, San Diego State and Washington.
"UCLA is close to home which is nice, but I'm not sure I want to be that close," Griffin said. "I love the atmosphere there and the coaches are great.
"UCLA and San Diego State are really the most interested and I think those two will offer," he said. "I know UCLA is looking at only taking one quarterback though and I know that San Diego State needs a quarterback too."
Griffin attended junior days at UCLA, San Diego State and Stanford. "Stanford has amazing academics and I have a lot of family up there," Griffin said. "I have a cousin who plays water polo for them and I love the campus. It's a real elite school."
Growing up, Griffin said he used to watch Texas and Texas Tech. "My mom is from Dallas and I was brainwashed as a kid to watch them."
He reports a 3.7 core GPA and is taking the SAT on May 5.
