Jeremy Brown, the 5-foot-10, 170 pound, defensive back/wide receiver from Boone High School in Orlando, Fla., finished his junior season with six touchdowns receiving and six interceptions on defense.
"I'm a playmaker," said Brown, ranked No. 66 in the Southeast by Scout.com. "I love getting to the ball and get a lot of interceptions. I don't get beat deep and am always around the ball. I run good routes and make people miss. I have pretty good breakaway speed and make quick moves, but want to improve my explosiveness. I also want to improve my coverage skills on defense."
Brown benches 250 pounds, squats 330 and has a 35-inch vertical jump. He says he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.
He says he has approximately 18 scholarship offers and favors Florida slightly over Auburn, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and South Carolina. All of his favorites have offered. Brown says that every SEC team has offered as well as Georgia Tech, Clemson, Duke, Arizona State, Central Florida, Arkansas and Northwestern.
Brown attended the Florida Junior Day and spring game. "They have a lot of great talent and it's a very competitive place," Brown said. "They have great coaches and amazing fan support. I love The Swamp and how the fans are dedicated to the team."
The Gators are just under two hours from his house, but Brown insists that distance isn't a factor. "Location won't play any part in my decision," he said.
He is unsure whether he will attend any camps this summer, but plans on taking as many unofficial visits as possible. In fact, Brown already has an official visit scheduled to
Auburn early in the season and to Notre Dame for the USC game on October 20. "Notre Dame will be my last official visit," Brown said. "I'll make my decision after that visit.
"The coaches at Notre Dame are great and I really like (defensive coordinator) coach Corwin Brown," Brown said. "We really hit it off and he said they need a cover guy like me. They seem like a family and I'm really excited to go up there and meet them all in person."
Brown says that the Irish, Gators and Tigers are all recruiting him at defensive back.
"I like how Auburn battles for the SEC championship every year," he said. "They have a great team and I've heard it's a great place. My mom works with some Auburn alumni and they loved it there."
Brown says that most schools are recruiting him for defensive back. "But Wisconsin and South Carolina said I could play receiver and UCF wants me just for offense," Brown said.
Born in North Carolina, Brown says he never followed a specific school while growing up.
"I just loved the ACC and SEC and followed all the teams," Brown said. "I lived in North Carolina for about six years, but go back every year because I still have a lot of family there."
He reports a 3.0 core GPA and took the SAT on May 5.
