Back from Tech, CU and UGA up next

With the May evaluation period in full swing, Makiri Pugh, a defensive back from Independence High School in Charlotte, N.C., has been busy collecting offers and visiting schools. He took in Georgia Tech last weekend, and has two more visits lined up for this weekend.

"East Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Clemson offered me scholarships last week," said Makiri Pugh.

Those schools added to his growing list of scholarship offers that already included the likes of Duke, Georgia, and Marshall. Wanting to try and make a decision in the next month or so, Pugh has been busy taking unofficial visits to college campuses. Last weekend he went to Georgia Tech, and he has Clemson and Georgia on deck.

"Atlanta was great. I liked the city and everything. My father went to college there. The coaching staff is excellent. They're doing a lot of new buildings and development there."

Pugh met with two of the coaches including Head Coach Chan Gailey, and Gailey was content to let Georgia Tech speak for itself.

"I met with Coach Gailey and Coach Tenuta. Coach Gailey said he didn't want to try and talk me into anything while I was there. He said that if someone can be talked into something, then they can be talked out of it. He wanted to present the facts about Georgia Tech, and if I liked it, they wanted me there.

Coach Tenuta talked about how I might fit into his defensive scheme, their philosophy, and how I might be a player in it."

Pugh will miss the Combine in Charlotte on Saturday, because he is heading back on the road to take in two more schools this weekend.

"I'm going to Clemson tomorrow (Friday) and to Georgia on Saturday. I want to get in and see the school and meet with the coaches. I want learn more about the programs and staffs there."

With the whirlwind spring tour, does Pugh plan on making an early commitment?

"We're thinking between late May and mid June; that's when I will try and make a decision. It's pretty open right now. I'm just looking at schools and see where I'll fit in the best, then go back and comparing them to one another."

Pugh has been invited to participate in the Elite Camp held in Atlanta on May 26th. Recommended Stories
