Cory Cox earned the starting quarterback job prior to the 2006 season and he made the most his opportunity. He finished the regular season with 1,393 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He ended up leading his team to a 13-1 record before falling to John Brantley and Ocala Trinity. Now, Cox is in the middle of spring football practice as he gears up for his senior season. "We're gonna be pretty good on offense," Cox said. "And our defense is always gonna be good. We have a four-way game next week with a few other schools in the area." Cox, 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, already has one offer and is hoping to land a few more soon. "Recruiting has picked up a lot," he said. "We have two or three coaches every day at practice. I've been talking to South Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Western Michigan, Duke of course, and Central Florida." It's an SEC school that interests Cox the most right now. "Auburn's definitely my favorite," he said. "I went to Auburn's Junior Day on March 7. I grew up close to there (in Alabama). I went to a lot of their games when I was little. There's no atmosphere like an SEC football game and Auburn's right there with any of them. The stadium is awesome. They have the best fans. It would be a great opportunity for me if they were to offer." How close might the Tigers be from offering the talented signal-caller? "They told me they're considering a few quarterbacks right now but they only plan on taking one," he said. "They invited me to camp so I'm going up on June 9 to see what I can do. Hopefully some of the other kids they're looking at are there so they can see me next to them." Right behind Auburn on Cox's wish list would be Georgia Tech. "I like them a lot," he said. "They're a good school in a good location and both of my teammates (linebacker Ryan Baker and receiver Jon Lockhart) are being recruited and like the school too." Cox, who is still waiting for his first offer, said he's enjoying spring for now and trying to stay patient. "I'm being patient," he said. "It's hard sometimes because I'm excited for every opportunity that comes up."
