DeJuan Miller, ranked No. 23 in the East by Scout.com, is the 6-foot-5, 200-pound wide receiver from Metuchen (N.J.).
Although Miller has around 12 scholarship offers, there is one school that stands head and shoulders above the rest - Oklahoma. "They've always been my favorite team," Miller said. "I grew up idolizing their players and it has always been my dream to go there. Barring any major setbacks, I don't see another school bumping them out of first place."
Miller's parents are both from Oklahoma and DeJuan himself was born in Oklahoma City. "I love their tradition and that they've won seven national championships," he said. "They are always in BCS bowl games and are always winning the Big 12. They know how to win and play hard. It's a prestigious program and it's not like they're just a bunch of thugs. They are really respected."
Despite Miller saying there's a "70 percent chance" that he'll commit with the Sooners, he doesn't plan to make his decision any time soon. "I don't want to decide during the summer," Miller said. "I just don't want to rush it. Oklahoma is my number one choice, but I want to keep things open and see what other schools have to offer. I still plan to take my visits and give others a serious look."
Some of the other schools that Miller wants to look at other than Oklahoma are Penn State, Florida, Rutgers and Michigan. He also has offers from Iowa, Connecticut, Boston College and Maryland.
"Florida hasn't offered yet, but they told my coach that they are really interested and that they would offer," Miller said. "Coach Urban Meyer was at my high school and my coach says he was really impressed with me."
Miller's first scholarship offer came from Rutgers last summer and he attended their junior day earlier this spring. He also went to junior days at Maryland, Oklahoma and Penn State.
"Even though I haven't been to Michigan yet, I really like them," Miller said. "They have great tradition, like Oklahoma. They have a great history of winning and going to the Rose Bowl. They always produce top players and pretty good receivers. They always seem to be sending guys to the NFL."
Miller finished his junior season with 29 catches for 575 yards and nine touchdowns. He benches 235 pounds, squats 410 and has a 33-inch vertical jump. "I possess good speed for my height and I'm pretty elusive," he said. "I'm a smooth route-runner and have great hands. I run the 40 in 4.6 seconds. I'm physical and I’m not afraid to go across the middle and sacrifice myself. I'm also a pretty good finesse receiver too.
"I still want to become a better route runner and improve my awareness of coverages," he said. "I just plan to study the game more and get better all-around."
Miller also plays basketball and is being recruited for the hardwood as well. He averages 17 points, three assists and two blocks per game. "I haven't decided if I'll do both or not," Miller said. "I'm thinking about it. I know it's been done before, but it's a tough schedule."
He reports a 2.8 core GPA and took his SAT on May 5.
