Robert Blanton, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback from Butler High School in Matthews (N.C.), continues to deny favorites, but says his list of offers now stands at 15, with Kentucky, Colorado, Akron, California and Oregon the most recent additions.
“I still haven’t started narrowing things down yet,” Blanton said. “I want to take my time and take as many unofficial visits as I can before I start making any decisions. I think I’ll have some favorites by this summer.”
Blanton, who was born in Clackamas, Oregon, said he was happy and surprised to get an offer from the Ducks. “Oregon offered about a month ago. It was pretty cool. They know I was born there, so they are using the whole 'hometown thing.'"
“Coach Mike Bellotti was at my school yesterday (May 16) for a few minutes to check me out. I’ve talked to the defensive coordinator (Nick Aliotti) the most though. We keep in pretty constant contact. I think I’ll take an official visit out there, but I’m not quite sure. I am interested in Oregon.”
The Scout.com four-star prospect said he received his offer from the Golden Bears just days after he got the Oregon offer.
“I think it was like two days after I got the Oregon offer,” he said. “That was way cool too. Their head coach (Jeff Tedford) was at my school yesterday too. They want me to play corner.
“Coach (Todd) Littlejohn and I talk a lot. He wanted me to come out there for a camp in June I think, but I’m not going to go. It’s just too expensive. I’ll probably take an official there too. I’m really interested in Cal.”
Blanton said he plans to use his official visits to see the schools that are further away from his home in North Carolina. “I’m going to take unofficial visits to as many of the schools that are closer to me. I’ll probably take an official visit to Notre Dame too.
“Michigan, Virginia Tech and Kentucky came down to watch me this week too. I just want to see about all my options before I start making any serious decisions.”
Blanton reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 810 SAT (two-part) retake.
