Colin Shumate said he favors Nebraska slightly over California, Boise State, Florida, Colorado State and Stanford. "I love the tradition at Nebraska," Shumate said. "It's all about football and they have the best atmosphere. They live football and it's just a great place to play. I really like what coach Bill Callahan has done there..."

Colin Shumate, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker from Las Vegas (Nev.), has one lone scholarship offer from Colorado State. He hopes there's more to come. "I just want to see what happens and who else offers," Shumate said. "I think I should be getting more offers this summer and I'll take a look at all of them. Tradition and football history are important to me."

Shumate favors Nebraska slightly over California, Boise State, Florida, Colorado State and Stanford.

"I love the tradition at Nebraska," Shumate said. "It's all about football and they have the best atmosphere. They live football and it's just a great place to play. I really like what coach Bill Callahan has done there.

"They've expressed deep interest in me and are just evaluating everything," Shumate said. "I'm gonna wait and see what happens."

The only camp that Shumate plans on attending going forward is UNLV's team camp. He's been to a combine at Stanford and came away impressed. "It's a great place and a really nice school," he said. "My parents love their academics."

Shumate says that he never had a favorite school growing up. "I grew up in Vegas, but never really followed UNLV. My uncle (Matt Csoka) used to coach a Div. III school in Nebraska and that's how I started liking the Huskers.

"He now coaches Clewiston High School in Florida and is trying to get my name out over there. I'm not really looking at distance or location too much, but I do like the West Coast a lot. That's one of the things I like about Cal. They are always a top team in the Pac-10 and are competitive every year. They aren't afraid to play the top teams from out of conference either."

Shumate finished his junior season with 94 tackles, eight sacks and two fumbles caused. He benches 300 pounds, squats 400 and has a 34-inch vertical jump.

"I like stuffing the middle and stopping the run," Shumate said. "I get to the quarterback well and like blitzing. I play hard-nosed, hard-hitting football. I love hitting people and making them think twice about coming back my way again."

Shumate runs the forty in 4.75 seconds.

"I want to improve my coverage skills and be a more complete linebacker," he said. "I just want to do whatever I need to do to get better and help my team."

Shumate reports a 3.8 core GPA, a 25 ACT and a 1700 SAT.
