Ronald Byrd of Callaway High School in Georgia is a player that showed well at the Kennedy/CES combine in January, and several schools have taken notice with scholarship offers already. Who has offered, and where does he plan on camping this summer?
Ronald Byrd
showed up on the recruiting scene in the fall when several high profile coaches around the south were checking him out at Callaway High School. His invitation to the Kennedy/CES combine confirmed that he is a big time prospect at the offensive tackle position.
Late in February at the Combine, Byrd measured 6-5.5 and 246 pounds. His video shows he has the quickness and football skills to go with the frame to be a terrific offensive tackle on the college level.
Byrd has already garnered several scholarship offers this spring as well as visiting some of his favorite schools. Who has offered him, who looks to be close, and who will he camp with this summer?
"I've gotten scholarship offers so far from
Arkansas
, Troy,
Purdue
,
Indiana
,
Marshall
, and
Louisville
," said Byrd. "I went to spring games at
Auburn
and
Alabama
, and I went to junior days at
Clemson
and
Georgia
."
What did he think about each of the teams he visited this spring?
"Auburn has a good program. I got to meet with Coach Nall and Coach Tuberville while I was there. Alabama's spring game was packed; it was incredible. Coach Saban came to our school about three weeks ago. I went to Clemson for junior day and got to meet with Coach Napier. They know exactly who they want to recruit there. It's a small town, and it's a good feeling there. I got to meet with Coach
Rodney Garner
at Georgia's junior day. He's real straight up. He likes to joke around, but he also wants you to know when it's time to be serious and play football."
"All of the schools are recruiting me to play offensive tackle. I'm weighing 257 pounds right now."
With several scholarships in hand, does Byrd have any favorite teams?
"I don't really have any favorites right now, but I'm going to camp at Auburn, Alabama, and Clemson this summer for sure."
Byrd was scheduled to attend the Scout Camp at
Georgia Tech
this Saturday, but he is attending graduation for a family member at Callaway High School.
