Quinn Evans, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback from Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz., has a scholarship from Stanford, but the Cardinal remains the only school that has pulled the trigger for him.
"I really like Stanford a lot," Evans said. "I like the area a lot and the weather there is perfect. I love all the trees…we don't have a lot of trees in Arizona.
"I also like coach Jim Harbaugh a lot. He's a good guy and he's new, so he's real fired-up and excited about helping them turn it around. I love how competitive he is and what a hard worker he is."
Evans says the Cardinal leads slightly over Wisconsin, Ohio State, California and Arizona State. He plans on attending camps at Wisconsin on June 22, Ohio State and Arizona State.
Despite the Sun Devils being only 25 minutes from his house, Evans says that distance won't be a factor.
His dad, Dave Evans, was a two-time All-American wrestler at Wisconsin and his mom was a cheerleader for the Badgers. "I really like the tradition of the Big Ten and I grew up following Wisconsin," Evans said. "I also don't mind the weather because I used to live in Detroit. I really want to go up there and see what it's like.
"I want a place with great football and academics," Evans said. "I want to fit in with the coaches and play for a team that is really driven to win. I'm willing to wait before I commit. I don't want to rush into it."
Evans finished his junior season with 64 tackles, three tackles and one interception. He benches 255 pounds, squats 385 and has a 36-inch vertical jump.
"I have good field speed and I'm tough off the line," Evans said. "I have a real good jam and I'm a good cover corner. I play very physical, but I need to improve my back-peddle and footwork."
He reports a 3.7 core GPA and a 1570 SAT.
