Roy Roundtree, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver from Trotwood-Madison High in Ohio informed Scout.com that he was set to make a verbal commitment to the Purdue Boilermakers, and today he made it official by informing the Purdue coaching staff.
“Tree” chose the Boilers over offers from Illinois, Nebraska, West Virginia, Miami (Oh), Eastern Michigan and Toledo.
“Yeah it has been a really good day,” Roundtree said with apparent joy in his voice. “All of the people up at school and everybody on the football team have been coming up to congratulate me and stuff like that.”
“This morning Coach Douglass was not at school, so I called him and told him that I wanted to make a commitment. He told me congratulations and that he would let them know.”
“I then sent a text message to the recruiting coordinator to let him know that I wanted to verbal,” Roundtree continued. “He told me that they would be glad to have a player like me, and I told him that it would be an honor to be wearing the Black and Gold on the next level.”
Roundtree, who has been dubbed TG3 by his teammates, has discussed his future with the Boiler coaching staff, and he is excited about what he may be able to do in their offense.
“I am definitely looking to go in and start off at punt return and kick return,” Roundtree explained. “ I will also be playing some slot and some wide out. I am not looking to redshirt, but I know that I need to add some weight and get stronger.”
As a junior, Roundtree hauled in 48 passes for 851 yards and seven touchdowns to earn All-Conference honors.
