Last season Coach Al Golden and staff showed they could keep some of the best players in Philadelphia at home by snagging North Catholic star Daryl Robinson and this year they have added another excellent Philly prospect in three-star linebacker Geoffrey Prather of Archbishop Carroll who committed to the Owls today.

When we had last spoke to Geoffrey Prather it was obvious that the Radnor, Pa., native was hoping to get a scholarship offer from the Temple coaching staff as soon as possible so he could give the Owls his verbal commitment and that offer finally this week came so today during camp that wish became a reality when the 6-foot-2, 195-pound linebacker accepted an offer to play for Temple.

“When I was at camp today the coaching staff had us doing drills for them and working out and when I ran my 40-yard dash they were all very impressed with how explosive I was,” Prather said. “I thought I did really well in the drills and then we went and ate lunch.”

“I told them that I wanted to play for Temple and they welcomed me” Prather explained. “I was obviously real excited because Temple has been my favorite the whole time, so I gave him my verbal commitment on the spot and became and Owl. The whole staff was ecstatic about the commitment and there was just a lot of excitement in that room. We all talked and they said they want me to start by my sophomore year at either weak side or middle linebacker.”

“For me it was all about the location of the school and the feeling I got on the campus when I was down there,” Prather stated. “I always felt real good when I was down there and I feel like the staff is building something special at Temple that I wanted to be a part of. My parents were all about me going to Temple and my aunt attended the school too, so everyone was behind this. Now I can help them try to keep some other players in Philadelphia too which will be cool. As far as my commitment, I will continue to take calls from other schools and they can feel free to offer, but I’m going to Temple no matter what.”

Prather is a huge pickup for a Temple staff trying to rebuild a struggling program right now. This marks two years in a row that they have kept one of the top prospects in Philadelphia in the city and considering the amount of interest there is from other top players around the region, the Owls could end up having a very solid class. Prather was voted an All-Combine performer in both San Antonio and Randolph for Scout.com and is an excellent athlete.
