A few weeks ago, Spencer Reeves said he was ready to commit. "I actually called LSU and told them I wanted to be a Tiger," Reeves said. "They said 'okay' and that they wanted to see me at camp before they could accept it. I didn't really understand if I had an offer or not and I've talked with my coach about it and he said that they want to move me to safety..."

Spencer Reeves, the 6-foot-1.5, 205-pound three-star linebacker from Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas, finished his junior season with 99 tackles, three interceptions and one blocked punt. Reeves says he benches 255 pounds, squats 415 and has a 33-inch vertical jump.

"I have good speed and power," Reeves said. "When you look at my film you can see my speed. I can also put my head down and blow things up.

"I'm working on bulking up," he said. "I'm not going to go to any camps this summer because I want to spend a lot of time working out and putting on weight. I want to just get physically stronger."

Reeves, ranked No. 48 in the Southwest by Scout.com, says he has approximately 20 scholarship offers, but has narrowed it down to three. He favors Minnesota, Texas Tech and Kansas State, all of whom have offered. He also has offers from Kansas, Colorado, Colorado State, SMU, Arizona, Wisconsin, Baylor, Kentucky and others.

A few weeks ago, Reeves said he was ready to commit. "I actually called LSU and told them I wanted to be a Tiger," Reeves said. "They said 'okay' and that they wanted to see me at camp before they could accept it. I didn't really understand if I had an offer or not and I've talked with my coach about it and he said that they want to move me to safety and that's why they wanted to see me at camp. I want to play linebacker and that's one of the main reasons they dropped down."

Now, Reeves says he plans to take his time before making a decision. "I'm going to take some official visits and take my time," he said.

The first school to offer Reeves was Minnesota and he's anxious to visit the Gophers. "I get text messages from the coaches like every day," he said. "I love how they really seem to like me and I love the attitude of the new staff. They are really excited about improving and putting together a top team. I'm definitely going to visit them. We're talking about sometime in September."

The only reservation that Reeves has about the Gophers is the distance and that's what makes Texas Tech so appealing for him. "Staying close is a small factor," he said. "My family wants me to stay close, but they know I like Minnesota and they realize there's a chance I'm going away.

"Texas Tech is only about six hours, which is a plus," Reeves said. "Everyone talks about the Texas Tech offense and I'd like to go there and put the defense on the map."

Defense is what attracted Reeves to Kansas State as well. "They are an up-and-coming program and the defensive coordinator (Tim Tibesar) is a great guy. They said they run a 3-4 defense and that's what we just started running at my high school. I feel I could go there and make an impact."

Growing up, Reeves said he always wanted to go to Texas. "If they had offered me, I would have committed," he said. "My coach says they are out of scholarships."

He reports a 3.7 core GPA, but has not taken the ACT or SAT yet.
