Wilmington, Del., native James Terry picked up his first three scholarship offers over the past several weeks from two local programs in Delaware State and Temple and another Division I-AA school in Towson. With a busy camp schedule ahead of him, Terry hopes more offers will be on their way soon.
James Terry
, a 6-foot-2.5, 294-pound defensive tackle from Brandywine High School in Delaware picked up offers from
Temple
, Delaware State and Towson recently giving him his first three to date. With interest also coming from programs like
Penn State
,
Maryland
and
Connecticut
, Terry could end up earning a few more offers over the camp season.
“My first three offers came in from Temple, Towson and Del State,” Terry said. “I was at Temple for camp last weekend and really liked the coaching staff and the way they run things there. I know they have had it rough lately, but I think they have things headed in the right direction under the new staff and when talking to them you can just tell they are all very down to Earth guys.”
“I really liked the additions to the campus that Temple has made recently with the new technical center and computer labs,” Terry added. “Now you can access any book in the library through a computer and they have put in some pretty impressive educational equipment. I liked the campus a lot and the coaching staff seemed to really like me. I had been to their junior day as well and toured Lincoln Financial Field which would be a really cool place to play.”
Terry is receiving mail from a number of programs on many different levels, however the three schools that he has been in most consistent contact that have not offered at this point are Penn State, Maryland and Connecticut.
“Coach (Matt Cersosimo) at Connecticut text messages me every now and then just to keep up with me and say hello,” Terry stated. “I met him at my school once, but that was just a brief meeting and I haven’t gotten as much of a chance as I would like to get to know him. I definitely want to take a trip up there this summer and am just planning when the best time is.”
“I am going to Maryland for camp Thursday and then go to Penn State for camp on Friday and Saturday,” Terry explained. “I really like Coach Larry Johnson at Penn State because he is down to Earth and talks to me about life way more then football. He lets me see that he is a person and not just a coach and I really like and respect that about him. Coach (Bryan) Bossard is my recruiter at Maryland, however we have not spoken in a while at this point. I like the location of Maryland and the style of defense that they play.”
As a sophomore at Brandywine High School, Terry earned third-team All-State and first-team All-Conference honors after recording 70 tackles and 10 sacks.
