On a Camping Spree
Ashton Burno

Ashton Burno has been hitting up plenty of schools lately, attending camps at Pittsburgh, Villanova, Buffalo and Maryland over the past week and plans to attend two more over the next ten days. With all of this recent activity we caught up with Burno to find out what his recruiting picture looks like after some hard work.

Ashton Burno, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound athlete from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pa., could line up at either defensive end or linebacker at the collegiate level and the latter is probably the best bet at this point. Burno plans to attend camp at Syracuse on Friday and possibly Michigan State next week after visiting Pittsburgh, Villanova, Maryland and Buffalo over the past several days.

Pittsburgh - “It was pretty nice out there because I got to meet some of the other coaches other then my recruiter Coach Brian Angelichio. I think I did well against some really good competition and the one-on-one and seven-on-seven drills were where I thought my best performances came. They said they would be staying in contact by text and email until they can call me on September 1st which is what a lot of schools have been saying and I had been to Pitt twice before and was already familiar with it, so I liked it just as much as before there.”

Maryland - “Camping at Maryland was a great opportunity for me because we wore uppers and I am a physical player, so I think that really benefited me a lot. I had previously been to College Park for a junior day and their spring game, so I was already familiar with the campus and when they put me at linebacker in drills it really came alive down there. I loved the camp. They told me straight up that I was competing with a kid from Virginia Beach for a scholarship and that they would be in touch over the summer.”

Buffalo - “I was there yesterday and they had two practices. When we did the one-on-ones I had two interceptions at linebacker and liked it a lot up there as it was also my third visit to Buffalo. They are a bit closer to offering then the first two schools and said they just need to see the first two games of my senior year to make sure.”

Syracuse - “I go there on Friday and was already on campus earlier this spring for an unofficial visit to spring practices and liked everything about it there. The campus is very nice and the coaching staff is intense, so I am really looking forward to getting back up there.”

Connecticut - “I swear some of these schools schedule their camps on the same days as others on purpose and I was already signed up for Maryland camp, so I couldn’t get up to Connecticut. I have still been in touch and my recruiting coach was at school again in May to meet with me, so I think I am going to take an unofficial visit to Storrs this summer with my family.”

As a junior, Burno registered 16 sacks, three forced fumbles, two recovered fumbles and four pass deflections while earning All-Conference honors at defensive end.
