Speaks on Commitment
Posted Jun 27, 2007
Hanover, N.H., product Carl Cutler did not waste much time after receiving his first scholarship offer to commit to a school because time was not needed. Earlier in the summer Cutler had told Scout.com that Syracuse was his early favorite and when the coaching staff extended an offer the decision was quick.
, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound two-way athlete from Hanover High School in New Hampshire gave his verbal commitment to
this weekend after attending camp there. While Cutler has the versatility to play a number of different positions at the collegiate level he probably fits best in an H-Back role which could make him very effective in the Orange offense.
“Carl has solidly committed to play football at Syracuse and they were his top choice to begin with, so when he was offered by Coach Brian White I don’t think he had much to think about to be honest,” Cutler’s father said. “Once Coach White sent the text message that an offer would be on the way Carl responded and eventually got in touch with the staff to let him know he wanted to commit right then.”
Cutler had told us a while back that Syracuse was his number one and when speaking to him tonight he expanded on why he made the decision that he did. He is extremely excited to be a part of the Syracuse family and expressed that when speaking with us.
“I went up for a one-day camp this weekend and even though my hamstring was very fatigued I think I did pretty well,” Cutler said. “When they offered me a scholarship I knew that was where I wanted to be, so I let the coaches know immediately that I was accepting the offer to play there. Coach (Greg) Robinson and Coach (Brian) White were both very excited to have me aboard and it was a great time.”
“I just love Syracuse because it reminds me a lot of Hanover and I haven’t met one person on campus that I didn’t like,” Cutler explained. “I love the coaching staff and academically they offer a lot which is exciting because I want to get into some sort of law program at school. As for how they will use me, I’m not quite sure yet, but I will do whatever they need me to do. Right now I am still speechless about it and can’t really explain what I’m feeling. I guess I’m still in shock really because it has been my dream to play football at this level since I first put on the pads and now that dream has been realized.”
As a sophomore, Cutler caught seven passes for 91 yards and one touchdown.
As a junior, Cutler caught 12 passes for 120 yards on his way to 1st Team All-State honors. He also made 37 tackles and intercepted a pass from his linebacker position.
