Lohr Commits to Vanderbilt
Posted Jul 10, 2007
After picking up an offer from Vanderbilt a week ago it was pretty obvious talking to Rob Lohr on the phone that the Commodores were definitely in the driver’s seat for the Phoenixville, Pa., product. After considering the offer for a week and speaking to his parents about the decision, Lohr decided to pull the trigger this evening.
, but after a visit to
a while ago the 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete knew in his heart exactly where he wanted to be if an offer came his way. Last week that offer did come through from the Commodore coaching staff and this evening Lohr decided to end his recruitment and give his verbal pledge to his future coaching staff.
“I just called Coach (Charlie) Fisher a minute ago and let him know I wanted to come play at Vanderbilt and he was just really excited to have me there,” Lohr said. “One thing I really liked about Coach Fisher from the start was that he always has told me to just take my time and really find a place I want to be at. Some coaches have the proclivity to rush things a bit and he was the type of recruiter that stressed to me how important it was to make sure the decision was what I wanted. I got that type of feel from the whole coaching staff down at Vanderbilt as they are a very close-knit, family type of staff. Even when I was at camp in drills their style was more mentors in nature, trying to make you a better player without all the negativity.”
“When I was down for camp I was walking around campus with my father and remember telling him that if Vanderbilt offered me that it was definitely the place I was going, so right now I can’t really put things into words because I don’t think it has really sunk in yet for me,” Lohr explained. “I’m just very excited to become a part of the school and program and am glad I have an opportunity to go to such a fine school, get an education and play football. Between the facilities, the campus and the atmosphere surrounding the entire school I don’t think I could ask for anything more.”
Lohr will major in economics at Vanderbilt and says a minor in accounting is probably in the cards as well. By the time he hits campus he will have already completed a year’s worth of college credits at community college, so right now he is working with admissions at Vanderbilt to see how they will transfer over.
As a junior at Phoenixville High School, Lohr caught 17 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns in a run-oriented offense for Phoenixville. He also added 58 tackles and five sacks from his defensive end position. He is being recruited to play defensive end for Vanderbilt.
He carries a 3.71 core GPA and scored an 1180 on his SAT test, although he does plan to take it again as he was not satisfied with the initial score.
