Today is the last day of the Scout.com Pre-season State Rankings release for the Class of 2008. Louisiana, Utah, West Virginia and New England are now unveiled and these states are headlined by linebacker Lynn Katoa and offensive guard Josh Jenkins.
State Rankings Map
This season the state of Utah is deep and talented. There are a number of high caliber blue-chippers at the top that, in a normal year, would claim top prospect honors. But this is a special year and linebacker
Lynn Katoa
is the top prospect in the state of Utah. "Utah has always had quality at the top, but this year is exceptional because of the depth and breadth of talent across the board, at every position,” said Chris Fetters, Northwest Recruiting Analyst for Scout.com. “We knew about
Austin Holt
(South Jordan, Utah) and
Derek Tuimauga
(South Jordan, Utah) years ago, but uncovering National Hot 100 prospects Lynn Katoa (Salt Lake City, Utah) and
Sausan Shakerin
(Sandy, Utah) has been just as much fun. Just look at BYU's current commit list, it doesn't lie. They are digging early and often into the Beehive State's stockpile of talent, and are coming up with gold."
Chris Tolliver
The Bayou State is always one of the top producing states when it comes to college football, as Louisiana is blessed with great talent year in and year out. And these prospects usually end up staying home to play in Baton Rouge. “The state of Louisiana is consistently ruled by
LSU
and this season is no different as the Tigers hold commitments from many of the top twenty-five prospects in the state,” said Miller Safrit, Southeast Recruiting Analyst for Scout.com. “They are very much involved with many of the four-star players still on the board including highly-talented wide receiver Chris Tolliver (Rayville, La.).”
Josh Jenkins
West Virginia is home to one of the top offensive line prospects in the nation in Josh Jenkins (Parkersburg, W.V.). Jenkins is one of the top OLs ever produced from the Mounatineer State. “Josh Jenkins may be one of if not the best lineman the state has produced,” said Bob Lichtenfels, Midwest and East Recruiting Analyst for Scout.com. “He is a soft verbal commitment to West Virginia right now, but they will have to fend of
Florida State
and
Ohio State
to land their native son.”
Torrey Mack
The New England top 15 is comprised of the states in the northeastern part of the country. Although it’s not haven of large numbers of college football prospects there is still some very high end quality talent there. This season, the state of Connecticut leads the way. “There's a wealth of talent in the region this year,” said Lichtenfels. “The biggest story is the rise of Connecticut. Twelve of the regions top fifteen players are from Connecticut, including the top five. Running back Torrey Mack (Staford, Ct.) is an electric player on both sides of the ball."
