Robby Green, the 6-foot, 170-pound four-star cornerback from John Curtis High School in River Ridge (La.), has over 17 scholarship offers, but says he hasn’t even begun to narrow down his favorites.
"In about a month I'll narrow it down to 10," Green said. "Right now I'm totally open. By mid-season I hope to have it narrowed down to five."
Green, ranked as the No. 12 cornerback in the country by Scout.com, has already been to camps at Alabama and USC and will be at the LSU camp on July 22. He says the schools that are currently recruiting him the hardest are Alabama, USC, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee and Florida and all six have offered. He also has offers from Penn State, Clemson, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Arizona State and others.
"The Alabama camp was a lot of fun," he said. "It was very intense. I liked getting to work with coach Nick Saban because he's a wonderful defensive back coach. I like how intense they practice and I think that they'll be on-the-rise next year. They also have great fan support and I feel like I'd be able to play right away there."
Green says he has family in California and visits there regularly. "I like California a lot," he said. "The coaches at USC are great and a lot more laid-back than Alabama. It's not as intense there. We did a lot more individual drills and I really love the atmosphere. The people are really nice and they have great tradition. They are on TV all the time, so you know you're gonna get recognition out there.
"I also have a really good relationship with coach Ken Norton (linebackers)," Green said. "We're close and he's a cool guy. He has a ton of energy and is just fun to talk to."
Although the Trojans are far from home, Green insists that distance "won't be a factor at all," he said. "But it's nice that LSU is close to home. I really like the fan support at LSU and they are losing a lot of corners, so I'd be able to start as a freshman. It's also a great academic school and lately they've been winning a lot."
Green hasn't visited Michigan, Tennessee or Florida yet, but says he'd love to take visits to each, especially Michigan. "They produce some of the best cornerbacks in the country and always send guys to the NFL," he said. "They have a cool staff too and I'm hearing a lot from them. They compare me to Ty Law and Charles Woodson and that means a lot to me."
Green doesn't have any official visits scheduled yet, but plans to visit Arizona State unofficially in August.
"I want to have great team chemistry with the players and coaches," Green said. "I want to be comfortable around everyone and feel like family with them. I'd also like to contribute early and get some experience."
He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 17 ACT, which he recently retook.
