Three-star cornerback Reuben Johnson holds offers somewhere in the teens right now and has no current favorites, focusing most of his energy on the upcoming season at Winslow Township High School. That focus will turn to recruiting soon however, as he plans to narrow the field sometime near September.

Reuben Johnson held zero scholarship offers going into the Elite College Combine just months ago, however when the 5-foot-9, 175-pound cornerback was given his chance to put on a show in front of college coaches he did just that and has been rewarded with offers from the likes of Syracuse, Boston College, Iowa, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, Connecticut, Tennessee, Temple, Minnesota, Kentucky and Akron and others. Johnson has also shown an interest in Pittsburgh where he attended a junior day and likes the Tar Heels as well.

“Right now the focus has just been on my team, so I have been here every day from 3-8, trying to be the leader I know I need to be,” Johnson said. “There are big expectations for this team given the talent we have, but talent doesn’t always mean winning, so I am trying to make sure everyone is focused on the prize, which is why I have not spent much time on my recruiting lately. I have not focused much on researching schools at all lately, but plan on sitting down with my head coach and putting together a top five sometime before the season starts.”

North Carolina is one school that told Coach McBride they would be sending me an offer soon,” Johnson explained. “A lot of people have told me that I would fit well in their defensive scheme and I know if I work hard I could go in and make an early impact on their defense. They are an up and coming program with a new staff that just brought in an awesome class last year, led by Marvin Austin on the defensive line. Other then that I would say the three schools recruiting me the hardest are Syracuse, Boston College and Michigan State and they are definitely all in consideration.”

As a junior, Johnson split time in the backfield with two other running backs and managed to rack up 400 yards and five touchdowns. From his cornerback position, he intercepted seven passes, three of which he returned for touchdown. He also returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns.
